People fascinate me.
Even the most mundane people have lives that bewilder and amaze me. It is that curiosity that drives me to write stories about Chicago, Iowa and wherever else I may call home in years to come.
My professional career has been varied. I've acted professionally on stage. I've owned a theatre, where I produced live shows. I've worked in sales - schlepping newspaper ads and business technology solutions. But the common theme to everything I've done is my love of telling and hearing stories.
The essays, photos and other elements you'll find here are examples of some of the work I've done as a journalist in Chicago. I've only begun to scratch the surface of what there is to explore in this metropolis and I am eager to write more once I complete graduate school at Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the loving support I get from my family. My wife annie, my daughter Lucy and my Basset Hound Ellie are the ladies of my life - the force that keeps me going. I am eternally grateful for everything they do for me. And I wouldn't be pursuing my passion today without the encouragement of my parents and sister, who've always smiled and nodded as I embark upon another crazy journey.
Journalism is an exploration of the world for those who don't have the time or ability to do so. I consider myself extremely blessed to be able to tell the stories I do. I look forward to telling many more in the years to come.
